Mob sets suspected armed robber on fire in Taraba


A suspected armed robber who allegedly stabbed an eighteen-year-old POS operator to death in Taraba State has been set ablaze.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, was said to have taken place near the yam market in Wukari Local Government Area.

DAILY POST gathered that the victim, who was attacked in her shop, was said to have been preparing for her National Examination Council (NECO) exams.

Sources from the council, who spoke with our reporter, said the suspect entered the girl’s shop under the pretense of making a withdrawal.

“On approaching her shop, the suspect, who could not succeed in stealing money, ended up stabbing her, which resulted in her death.”

Another source, who spoke with our reporter on the condition of anonymity, said the suspect would have escaped, but the youths went after him and set him on fire.

Chairman of the local government council, Ismaila Dauda, confirmed the incident to our reporter.

“It is true that one young man went into a POS operator’s shop and stabbed her to death on Monday, June 17th, 2024, in Wukari town.”

He added, “The suspect was pursued, caught, and lynched to death by hoodlums.”

“It’s a sad and unfortunate incident. The young girl of 18 came to prepare for NECO exams and unfortunately met her untimely death,” the chairman lamented.

At the time of filing this report, security agencies were investigating the incident.

The state police command also confirmed the incident to DAILY POST through its Acting Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Gambo Kwache.

According to the Acting PPRO, “The suspect who stabbed the POS operator on her neck was lynched by the youths who went after him.”
