Armed men kill one in Rivers amid LGA leadership crisis


A young man identified as Endwell Awunze, has been reportedly shot dead by gunmen suspected to be the cultists causing mayhem in the state.

DAILY POST gathered that the incident occurred on Tuesday night at Ula-Pata-Ahoada, Ahaoda Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Awunze, alleged to be a “whistleblower” against cultism and other violent crimes in Okporowo community in Ahoada East LGA, was reportedly trailed and killed by cultists at about 7pm.

It was gathered that the incident happened shortly after Awunze left the protest venue opposite Ahoada East Council where they were protesting against the tenure elongation by the Local Government Chairmen.

According to Vanguard, a motorbike conveying Awunze was navigating along Ula-Pata road when three gunmen who had already laid ambush opened fire on him.

It was gathered that the victim died instantly while the driver of the motorbike sustained gunshot injuries and was quickly rushed to hospital where he is receiving treatment.

When contacted by DAILY POST the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko simply said, “let me find out and get back to you.”
