FRSC to enlist Oba of Benin, Edo Govt, transporters in campaign against accidents


Edo State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, said it plans to enlist the support of the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, and the Edo State Government in its campaign to reduce the incidences of road crashes in the State.

DAILY POST reports that the state Sector Commander, Paul Okpe, gave the hint while delivering the Corp Marshal’s message during a meeting with transport stakeholders in the state.

Okpe said the Command would write letters to the Edo State Government, the Oba of Benin, National Union of Road Workers, NURTW and Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, to solicit their cooperation in the campaign to reduce accidents in the state.

The Sector Commander, however, warned motorists against consumption of alcohol at motor parks across the state.

He said the meeting was part of efforts aimed at reducing accident on the roads across the country.

“Today’s event is to mark the begining of the Corp Marshall special patrol for. The message of the Corp Marshall is that we should work with drivers, transport union and other stakeholder to ensure a safe driving culture and thereby reduced accident in Edo and entire country.

“We are carrying out sensitization at the various parks cautioning drivers against drinking alcohol while driving because it makes you not to imbibe safety culture and the resultant effect is accident.

“So, we invited the chairman of parks and their members for this meeting, they will go back to their various parks and sensitize their members and ensure that they imbibe driving safety culture by avoiding alcohol and others things that hindered good driving,” he said.

He charged motorists to continue to imbibe safety culture while on the road, noting that their family members are at home waiting for their safe returns.

He also charged passengers to always caution drivers against over speeding and taking of alcohol.

In his remarks, the Vice Chairman, Warri Park, Benin City, Iyean Sunday, assured the Command that the travsporters would join the FRSC in the campaign with a view to reduce accidents on the road.

“Were are here to receive the message of the Corp Marshall. We will take the message down to our members and ensure that they avoid alcohol while driving,” he added.
