Edo guber: Peter Obi storms Benin to inaugurates Labour Party’s campaign

The 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party in the general election, Mr Peter Obi, on Saturday defied rain to inaugurate the party’s campaign office ahead of the September 21 governorship election in the state in Benin City.

DAILY POST reports that Barrister Olumide Akpata is the party’s governorship candidate while Alhaji Yusuf Asamah Kadiri is his running mate for the election.

Peter Obi, and other chieftains of the party who defied the rain to inaugurate the governorship campaign office, had earlier embarked on a road walk across some major streets in Benin City, and visited the Uwelu Spare market amidst cheers from traders in the market.

The former presidential candidate also paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, to seek his royal blessings and prayers for the party to emerge victorious at the election.

Speaking at the palace, Obi who thanked the royal father for his fatherly roles in the society, opined that the nation can only be great if there is free, fair and credible election.

Obi said that he believed that with the prayers of the Oba, the party can make a headway as it begins its political campaigns ahead of the governorship election.

Earlier, Olumide Akpata, the party’s governorship candidate, told the monarch that he was at the palace with the national leadership of the party to seek his royal blessings and to inform him that he would soon commence his political campaigns.

Akpata noted that it would be wrong for him to embark on campaigns without first visiting the traditional ruler for his blessings.

He posited that the Oba’s prayers would go a long way as he embarks on his mission of rescuing the state from the shackles of bad governance.

Akpata, expressed confidence that the party is strong and vibrant to wrestle power and deliver the dividends of democracy to the 18 local government areas of the state.

Responding, the Oba of Benin, who welcomed Peter Obi, the governorship candidate and other chieftains of the party to the palace, wished them well as they take their political campaigns through the nooks and crannies of the state.
