Insecurity: Military assures Zamfara gov of cooperation

The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, has assured Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State of the military’s continued cooperation in tackling insecurity.

The DHQ was reacting to Lawal’s assertion that he has no control over security architecture in the state.

Lawal had claimed that heads of security agencies in the state only take directives from their superiors and not from him.

Speaking on Wednesday, Lawal decried the activities of bandits in the state, while blaming their activities on political interference.

Reacting, the spokesman of DHQ, Edward Buba, said the Army remains “subservient to political authority, particularly the political leadership of Zamfara state”.

In a statement, Buba said the Army would not take issues with the governor.

He said: “The attention of the Defence Headquarters has been drawn to weighty allegations against the Armed Forces of Nigeria by the Zamfara State Governor in a recent interview on Channels TV.

“The AFN hereby makes it unequivocally clear that it is a professional force that is subservient to political authority, particularly the political leadership of Zamfara state.

“The military will not take issues with the governor, rather we choose the path of cooperation over conflict with the state governor and look forward to constructively engaging with him on these matters.”

He assured that the Military will continue to work “tirelessly to restore safety and security across our nation.
