The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a police officer and a local vigilante member in Omuma Local Government Area.
Security personnel guarding the council secretariat allegedly vowed to resist pro-Governor Siminalayi Fubara supporters from gaining access to the premises.
Eyewitness reports revealed that an argument ensued between police personnel on opposing sides, leading to sporadic shooting, which resulted in the officer’s death.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringo-Koko, while confirming the incident on Tuesday, stated that “an investigation is ongoing to unravel the cause of the deaths of the police officer and the local vigilante member.”
